Sharing the truth
In January 2007, jared martin found this website and contacted me because it was to his liking. (It looked different back then). Subsequently to Cult TV contacting me to book martin for their Oct 2007 convention, martin asked me to become his secretary. He repeatedly came at me with miscellaneous requests for secretarial work that included emailing a DVD company on his behalf (the UK one that was supposed to put out "The Fantastic Journey" last fall), doing miscellaneous research online, contacting other people on his behalf, and finding material for him. He even enlisted me to find many of his old TV shows. I complied with every request. But in July 2007 jared martin's gracious attitude changed. He neglected to say 'thank you' whenever I came thru for him with his many requests. He would complain about the quality of the material I was sending him--mind you for free and out of my own pocket. He made repeated promises of sending me a mystery package of "momentoes" that for 9 entire months he couldn't find the time to send. Always had an excuse but never had any qualms about asking me for more stuff, more videos, more research, more emailing people etc... All that time he never put a single thank you card in the mail for me! After all I was doing! He couldn't show a semblance of appreciation right back! Instead he kept using mind games to get more from me. And in spite of my having been the catalyst that brought him back into the public interest after more than 14 years, he still neglected to mail me a Christmas card last year! Needless to say, his lack of courtesy and manners was a huge shock to me. (It gets worse, I'll save that for later!)
It is my personal belief that by sharing my personal experience other fans will be alerted and aware should he ever approach them with similar requests and false promises. jared martin sent me an email full OF MORE LIES where he played "innocent" telling me that I chose to send him said material to him because I thought he might like it (Um, YEAH I DID, UPON YOUR MANY REQUESTS!!!!!!!) and further cried "bewilderement" (really? I'm bewildered too by your repeated lies and false promises and a ghost package that you could never find the time to send: could have avoided all this but nope, you chose to play mind games with me for 9 months, manipulated me into giving, giving while you were content taking and taking and taking some more...) and threw in the words libel and defamation in the same breath with his email full of lies! (He claimed I wanted a different kind of relationship: um, Grandpa, in your dreams! The jared martin I liked was young and existed in 1977. He's long gone by now! You're like 30 years older than me! Sorry I'm no yu wei, I'm not into geriatrics! BARF
!) and I am writing the TRUTH here and I have your emails to back up ALL my claims. And in light of your foolish threats, so do my friends as I forwarded many, many, many copies of your emails, "just in case"... My friends now know who's telling the truth here, and so will the rest of the world should you continue to make false claims about me and persist with your lies. [And now we have "British memorabilia-gate" to solve. Like that was Varian's belt buckle, eh? Yeah, right!] And unless I get an apology for my wasted time and wasted finances I will have no choice but to publish said emails so that the rest of the world knows who's telling the truth here and so that I may find some semblance of consolation in thus preventing any other person from being used by jared martin the way he used me. It won't make up for the lost time and money I wasted on him, but it feels good knowing that others will be spared a similar fate. And that's the way the cookie crumbles!
